Ironic because private study groups critical of established orthodoxy is EXACTLY how the Bible Students started, but somehow THAT is viewed as noble.

Keep telling yourself that!
by Lost in the fog inin the latest copy of the elders textbook someone kindly made available to us on this website, i see that "independently organized meetings for spiritual feeding" are still not allowed.
no wonder because independent research would let the scales fall from the eyes.. the gb still insisting that they are guided by the (always lower case) holy spirit and the bible!!
not that the rank and file members need the bible or holy spirit themselves because they are fed through meetings, conventions, assemblies, jw broadcasting and the publications.

Reproof announcement wording.
by Jofi_Wofo inhey, all.
i had an old memory pop into my head today about an oddly worded announcement made by an elder at a meeting back when i was a bible study.
i couldn't find anything in the wol nor on google about it, so i wondered if this was just some rogue one-off, or if this is the way things used to be announced.

James Jack what decade are you posting from, they just say "so and so is reproved", that's it.

This wording is mentioned specifically in the Elders manual with respect to blood transfusions. It is part of a larger protocol made in response to governments threatening legal consequences if JWs are not allowed to have a blood transfusion. In response JWs effectively lied under oath and said that there are no repercussions and it is a personal choice, and meanwhile they 'discontinued' judicial committees in such cases, making it seem more informal but for all intents and purposes it is still a JC. If the person ISN'T repentant, instead of disfellowshipping they will regard the person as having disassociated themself whether or not that's what they want, and in any case the announcement at the Hall will be the same: "so-and-so is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses". -

Faithful & Discreet Slave - 72 years ago!
by BoogerMan init was every jw taking part in the preaching work.

Imagine, JWs we're appointed as the one true religion in 1919 and for over a century didn't know who the slave was, including those supposedly part of it. Generations (yes, plural) of BS and JWs lived and died and didn't know who was supposed to be taking the lead apparently.

Spot the double-talk
by neat blue dog inwho can spot the double-talk in this quote from a new pr brochure series meant for government and media relations?.
the religious activity of jehovah’s witnesses worldwide is overseen by an administrative body, which jehovah’s witnesses refer to as “the governing body.” this group follows the pattern of the first century “apostles and elders” in jerusalem, who shared bible-based information and enabled individual believers to make their own decisions.
(acts 15:2) the governing body recognizes that each individual “will carry his own load” and respects his right of free will to make decisions, as he will bear the responsibility for the results..

Early Hominem. Neanderthals. Evolution.
by solameguy12 inso i grew up as a witness but i’m no longer active, i have some family that still practices very seriously.
but i don’t want to ask them my question.
but what does the bible and teaching’s of jw’s say about early hominids?

Neanderthals were human, just a lost genetic strain all of which adapt over time like any creature. Even today there is huge variety in bone structure, shape and size but we don't call them all different species. There are artifacts of civilization such as tools, clothing and burial so they weren't stereotypical cavemen. I believe WT has mentioned this as well.

Impact of Death of Favorite Character

I get swept up in emotions of the general SITUATION portrayed onscreen and how it reminds of real life, but I wouldn't say I specifically feel for a character, at least not since being a kid. I agree with NonCoinCollector about feeling loss of an actor or personality, but that's more to do with the individual than a specific character. For instance I found Norm Macdonald's death very disappointing and sobering.
